Troops

Troops are non-playable characters that you can order around—using the Command button—to aid you in battle. Unlike Little Fighter 2, which trends more to the street fighting genre, Hero Fighter is more battle oriented with a bigger number and more variety of troops, as well as more commands to order them around. As such, troops and strategy play an important role to win the game.

Soldiers are generally weaker than heroes, but benefit in numbers. Aside from lower damage and speed, they all can only block half of what a Hero can normally.

Commands

You can bring up the Command Menu by clicking on the Command button. If you don't know where the Command button is, click on the keyboard in the upper right to find it or edit your keys!

  • Stay on my left/right - Orders the troops to stay at your left/right. They will not follow you.
  • Follow me - Orders the troops to follow your character.
  • Free move - Orders the troops to move on their free will. This will cause them to attack the closest enemy.

Note: Regardless of the order, troops will always attack enemies nearby.

Mounts

Mounts are animals that can be used for combat, by riding on them. Some are faster, giving the character more speed. Others are stronger, devastating enemies on their way. Special moves of the characters may be different while riding. Riding does not consume SP.

To mount an animal, simply jump on it or run to it. To dismount, stop moving and press jump. Controlling the ride is almost identical as to control your character, however there is less maneuverability. For instance, turning around requires pressing the opposite direction for a while, or pressing it twice.

Horse

The horse is the fastest of the mounts and the only one that can jump. Simply press the jump key while running.

It is possible to grab an enemy by pressing ↑ ↓ A and it is also possible to perform a frontal recoil attack by pressing ↓ ↑ A.

Monster

Monster is slow but strong. When running, it shoves the enemies in front with its claws. Plus, it can spit energy balls by pressing attack.

Like on horse, it is also possible to grab an enemy by pressing ↑ ↓ A, although the enemy must be close to the monster's claws. Monster also possesses a frontal attack with his claws by pressing ↓ ↑ A, though not so powerful.

Triceratops

Similar to the monster, the triceratops also shoves the enemies in front, using its horns. Although not so resistent to enemy attacks, as it stops running after getting hit.

Pressing attack will make it hit the floor with its front paws, causing a shockwave that knocks down the enemies in front. But unlike the monster, it stops moving when attacking.

In HF, characters can be moved by pressing the respective up, down, left and right keys. The defend, jump and attack buttons are used to make the character perform an action. Attacking another character causes him or her to lose HP (health points), represented by a red bar below the character. A character is defeated if his/her HP drops to zero. HP slowly regenerates when below 25%.

Each character also has special attacks that can be activated by pressing a certain combination of keys. Most of these special attacks take up MP (mana points), represented by a blue bar below the character.

Some of the basic moves (such as running, jumping, dashing and somersault) take up SP (stamina points), represented by a white bar below the character. MP and SP recharge automatically over time.

Hero Fighter has a riding system in which players can jump on to horses and monsters to increase their speed or strength with lessened manoeuvrability. While fighting on horseback, some actions differ from when the player is on the ground. Additionally, even when a fighter is knocked down, it is still possible to deal damage to the fighter.

Fighters are also able to use objects in the game, such as boulders and the trunks of trees and even jump on them as platforms.

Keys:

Hero Fighter supports up to 3 human players playing in the same computer. First of all, you need to know what are your control keys. You can setup the Key Configuration by choosing "Key Setting" in the main menu. Or click on the "Keyboard" icon at the top right corner of the screen.

Control keys consist of Up(↑), Down(↓), Left(←), Right(→), to move your character, Attack(A), Jump(J), Guard(G), to perform the specific action, and Command(C) to give orders to your teammates and/or troops.
